You could take in a buddy with you who will radically change your strategies if you wish for them to do that. If you like a quieter approach, you’ve got silenced tranquilizer weapons to up close and personal choking of an enemy- and once again, a plethora of unique tools I won’t spoil.

If you like aggressive gameplay, you can pop rubber bullets into an assault rifle or an SMG and use that, maybe combine some grenades full of sleep gas. In fact, you have lethal and non-lethal options for any playstyle. You could go in stealthily, using anything from silenced tranquilizer pistols to knives. You can utilize any number of “toys” to accomplish your goals- stuff like C4, artillery cannons, and a bunch of really interesting, unique tools that I wouldn’t want to spoil, but believe me when I say that they’re fun as hell and each one is unique. You could shoot your way in and out using assault rifles, snipers, handguns, machine guns, snipers, rocket launchers, grenades, you name it- and all of those different weapons actually feel different and require unique play styles. You have a plethora of ways to approach any given situation. The bases themselves have phenomenal level design, although the open world in between those bases is rather dull on both maps. Speaking purely from a gameplay perspective, it’s damn near flawless. So, what makes it special? Lots of things, to put it simply. When we add narrative back in, I don’t think it beats MGS2, but I still would put it up there as one of the greatest games I’ve ever played- and I’ve played a lot of games. If we remove narrative from the equation, then MGSV is probably the best game in the series. My favorite is MGS2, and then MGSV is my second favorite. MGS1 is one of the first games I ever played, and I’ve been obsessed with the series for like.
